CHAPTER 9: Marika Frumes

Marika Frumes is a community builder and the Founder of Mysha, a premium referral based membership community for modern mothers. She started Mysha in 2020 after becoming a first-time mother in New York City and not being able to find the community she was craving.
Today Mysha serves mothers across NYC, NJ, CT, LA, Miami, and Austin through intimate, facilitated pods and high-touch experiences designed for women who want more than a “mom group”. Meaningful connection and depth is what she does best- and what got her here.
A New Yorker at heart, she now lives in Miami with her two kids, ages six and two.

Looking back at what Mysha has grown into today, what advice would you give your past self who was just starting out?

"Trust yourself and trust what comes naturally to you. For a long time, I underestimated what I was building because it felt intuitive. Gathering women, creating connection, holding space, it didn't feel like a business to me, it felt like something I just knew how to do. That's exactly why I didn't recognize its value for longer than I should have. I've learned that the things that feel effortless to you are often the things the world needs most.

The ease isn't a signal that it's not significant. It's a signal that you're exactly the right person to be doing it."

"Bedtime doesn't start at bedtime in our house. With a six-year-old, you have to earn the wind-down. We burn the last of the energy first with a few rounds of basketball in his room. Then we can talk about brushing teeth."

"The negotiation phase. Teeth brushing is somehow always a standoff. The mirror helps, they both enjoy looking at themselves doing it, which I've learned to use to my advantage."

"Once we're in bed, this is the part I actually love. The lamp goes on low, we pick a book, and for a few minutes the chaos stops. It's the one moment of the day where he's completely still."

"And then there's Mila. I sit next to her bed, tell her a story, hand her a crystal to hold, she's been obsessed with them lately,  and we read and snuggle until one of us gives in. I won't say who wins most nights."
